Updates for April 2024

April brings with it cold weather winter crops, like kale, spinach, some lettuces, peas, kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, leeks and early onions, and from southern areas, like Florida and southern Texas, strawberries, oranges, sumatras, grapefruit.

Strawberries: In season (typically, January - March) Already picked Strawberries are $5 per pound (2021).  A Patch of Blue is a small family owned farm conveniently located in Orlando, Florida. Farmers market dates will be announced as season begins. We will have farm stands on the weekends with already picked produce. CORN (already picked is typically available November-December, and STRAWBERRIES are usually January-April. Payment: cash, credit, cash app, credit cards. We grow lettuce year round and during the cool season have Kale, collards, Swiss chard, celery and other assorted greens. We also grow some seasonally appropriate herbs and edible flowers. Live plants and seedlings available as well as pond plants and mosquito fish. Please call ahead for availability. Planning to start selling at the Brownwood Farmer's Market at the Villages on Saturdays. Lettuce and as the season cools off I will add Kale, Collards, Swiss Chard, Celery and perhaps some other herbs and live plants. This is an aquaponic farm which means that anything sprayed on the plants must be safe enough for the fish tank (I can't even use some of the strong organic sprays.) We also sell live plants and seedlings. Lufa sponges and Aloe plants are particular specialties of ours. I sell produce off site through the Orlando Home Grown Co-op where people can view listings of products I have available and put in their orders to pick up the produce at the Co-op in Orlando or even have it delivered to their homes. Primary products available from my farm during the cool season include Lettuce, Living Lettuce, Collard Greens, Kale, Parsley and edible flowers.
